Dog-friendly Parks

Have a pooch? Wyndham’s pretty friendly towards them. Check out this map of Wyndham City’s Dog Off-Lead Areas where your pooches can run in wild abandon.

Apart from parks those listed above, Altona/Seaholme Dog Beach (look out for PA Burns Reserve) is simply awesome. Just 20min away from Tarneit (take Leakes road till it merges to Kororoit Creek Road), visit and be presented with a scene of dogs running free against the backdrop of sun, sea, sand and the grand Melbourne skyline. Carparking is free. Not intuitive to get to without a map or directions, though. Plan the route, i.e. freeway exit in advance.

This wonderful stretch of shallow water has to be one of the best dog beaches in Melbourne – no complicated restricted hours to figure out – it’s off leash for dogs all year round. If you arrive at low tide, the sandflats provide for lots of flat-out exercise and wading/bounding through the shallow water to get out to the various flat sand islands. But even at high tide, the waters are shallow and safe, and there is always the interesting option of the neighbouring reserve, which is full of low sandy dunes, wide open grassland for ball chasing and trees and saltbush to sniff through – set well away from the road.
