Tarneit Listening Post [December 6, 2014]

Some photos from the Tarneit Listening Post held earlier today. Lot of great vibes, happy faces, a positive, multicultural bunch.

The location of the Penrose Promenade Community Centre: Not intuitive to find with hardly any landmarks to indicate its meaningful presence, I suggested to the organisers a community hub had to be visible to the community. If the kindergarten next door could put up a giant green ballon to say hello to the community, I think Penrose could do better without pockmarking the landscape. – I am glad the feedback seemed well taken.

Also, in conversation with the Ageing Well facility staff, I found out about Tarneit’s history of agricultural settlement – the Italians  were one of the earliest (which explains the social club on Leakes Road). Fast forward to today to multicultural Tarneit. According to Profile.ID based on 2011 census data, here’s Tarneit’s ancestry breakdown.

BONUS: The centre features a Ageing Well facility (with a fantastic garden) that was impressive – in terms of passionate, committed staff, and excellent facilities. I will endeavour to write a feature on their efforts in the next few days. Better days ahead! It is easy to get carried away with the progress trap and forget the source we come from. Kudos to Penrose for the facility.

In the meantime, contact details on the $9.4m centre here:
